1961 - 1965	Student at Cologne University. Graduation in business administration and economics. Throughout this time, work in parents’ engineering plant, founded in 1948. Responsible for marketing, advertising, trade fairs and foreign external relations.

Work experience: a
January 1966	Sales manager in family factory (shirt ironing machines and other products, 150 employees, 15 million DM annual turnover). Main duties as sales manager: researching and setting up new product lines; creation and extension of sales networks, esp. with regard to exports; establishment of a product-oriented sales and distribution organization.

July 1970	Assumes management following illness of father

February 1974	On death of father becomes 95% owner of company. 5% of stock remains property of mother, who was instrumental in setting up company. Product diversification continued. Marketing of clothes manufacturing technology extended to international arena (distribution subsidiaries in 10 countries, representation in 63 countries). KANNEGIESSER is the acknowledged world leader in clothes manufacturing technology and leads the field in fusing machinery. Product lines for ironing presses and folding machines systematically expanded. Following takeovers of auxiliary firms KANNEGIESSER now manufactures in six locations across Germany, each with its own area of specialization. KANNEGIESSER is today one of two international companies supplying the entire range of industrial laundry technology. From spin dryers to tunnel washers and automated sorting technology, there exists no machine or device relevant to modern laundry activities that KANNEGIESSER does not produce. The company considers itself technology partner to laundry firms. Operations are grouped in four categories: wetwork, flatwork laundering, garment laundering and technical services. KANNEGIESSER’s strength lies in system solutions.

Ab 1974	Martin Kannegiesser is involved with the medium-sized companies Association of the Christian Democrat Party (CDU), initially as local chairman in Herford, later as district chairman in Eastern Westphalia (Lippe), vice-chairman in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and Board Director at national level (until 1992).
